Sandy Hook (Eroding Dune)
Pastel on paper. This is one of the large dunes being eroded into the bay. The established vegetation on top is slowly pulled and dropped of the edge. It isn't uncommon to see large pines toppled over, overcome by their own weight and the loss of their roots. The Navy dock that used to stretch the length of the beach is now 50 feet off shore at low tide. Huge concrete bunkers are crumbled and slowly being drawn into the sea. every inch of the park tells a story, and I feel an obligation to, in some way, illustrate one moment of the saga.
