I was born November 9th, 1984 to Doug and Valerie Hawxhurst. I have two brothers ( i am the middle son) and a relatively small family.
I grew up in Colts Neck, NJ, and lived there until 2005, when I moved to the shore town of Belmar, NJ. Both my mother and my grandmother are great artist in their own right, and I can say that I probably get my aptitude for the arts from them.
I graduated from Colts Neck High School in 2003 and attended York College of Pennsylvania in York, PA the next fall as an "undecided" major. I did well and made lots of friends, but after that first year I decided that a normal college was not for me. I excelled in the few art classes I took and was inspired to follow my talents by a painting teacher at the school.
I spent a year at Brookdale Community College in Colts Neck, NJ, and was accepted for the fall semester of 2005 at the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design in Lancaster, PA. This is where I lived and studied for the next three years, until i graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BFA in May of 2008.
My time in Lancaster had a profound effect on my outlook on art and formed the basis of my aesthetic style and interests. I can honestly say that I got a great education and would recomend the school to anyone. By the time I graduated I had a firm foundation to begin a career in the visual arts, and knew that I had made the right choice.
Since graduation I have been supporting myself through commissions of house portraits, and have been active in the local arts councils activities and shows (Belmar Arts Council). I am lucky enough to work out of my home studio.
Ultimately I would love to teach at a college level and pursue my own career as a fine artist on a national level. I am devoted to my profession, and consider myself a life-long student of both humanity and the art it creates.
